Major Tree Works Christchurch Park

As part of regular ongoing tree inspections and essential tree, health and safety maintenance work, it has become necessary to carry out some, exceptionally major pruning works to some significant trees within Christchurch Park.
This work will include crown reduction and major dead wooding to Oak trees nos. 457 and 535 (see map) but most significantly of all the removal/felling of the large, mature horse chestnut no. 1044 to rear of the Cenotaph, and the felling of very tall Poplars nos. 730 and 731, North of the round pond. The remaining Lombardy poplar no. 728 will also be crown reduced, to prevent any branch failures due to newly gained exposure to prevailing winds.
It is anticipated that these works will begin early next week, continuing through to July.
It is with regret that Parks and Open spaces tree team are having to do this work, but it has now become essential due to the condition and deterioration of these trees, which are now considered to pose an unacceptable risk of branch or whole tree failure.
