The spectacular Ipswich Hospital Band, formed in 1976 and well-known for performances at the Suffolk Show and their traditional playing of carols around the wards at Ipswich Hospital on Christmas morning, thrilled a record-sized crowd in the Upper Arboretum last Sunday at the last of this season’s Brass on the Grass concerts. At 4pm the head-count was 515, the highest ever attendance at Brass on the Grass and not easy to capture on camera as the majority sought shade under the trees with temperatures hitting the mid-eighties.
