The Friends volunteer work party last weekend was a great success.
10 people volunteered and were given a fascinating talk about traditional orchards and their management by Paul Read from STOG, Suffolk Traditional Orchard Group. They also planted 20m of native hedge at the back of the orchard consisting of hawthorn, blackthorn and privet, which in a few years time will create a natural screen to the new
Unfortunately, because of the exceptionally mild autumn the orchard trees could not be pruned as they still had leaves on so were not fully dormant. The Friends will therefore be running a volunteer pruning work party in January. Date to be confirmed.
