The Ice House

Although it is almost invisible unless you know where to look, this is a Grade II listed building!

It was built around 1735 and would have been an important part of the Mansion’s domestic arrangements, it’s carefully stored winter ice (collected from the Round Pond) providing the means to chill food well into the summer months.

Behind the door, and through a tunnel, lies a deep brick-lined chamber with a crowned brick dome overhead.
